CTEC Youth Appreciation!
On Thursday, February 6th, we kicked off our 2024-2025 Youth Appreciation program by honoring students from five of the Programs of Study offered at Salem Keizer Career Technical Education Center (CTEC). Optimist club members, guests, CTEC faculty and of course the students enjoyed a great meal prepared by CTEC Culinary Arts Students, got to hear about and from the students and also learned about the programs they are enrolled in at CTEC.
Below are synopses of each student.
Holden Johnson
Auto Body Paint & Repair
Holden is a junior from North Salem High School and is a first-year student at CTEC. During his short time at CTEC, Holden has already managed to show himself to be a stand-out person. He is passionate about the Auto Body Repair and Paint program and is always engaged in the content and skills being taught. He joyfully volunteers for any task presented to him and represents the program well during showcases at the resident schools. He is a leader in our program by being inclusive and celebrating team wins.
After high school, Holden wants to continue his passion for this type of work by opening his own repair shop in the Salem area.
Kamryn Klassen

Kamryn comes to CTEC from McNary High School. The Behavioral Health & Human Services teachers recommended Kamryn for this award noting that he is a student who stands out for his kindness, optimism, and willingness to help others. He’s always upbeat, approachable, and genuinely cares about making everyone feel welcome. Kamryn’s friendly personality and polite nature create a positive atmosphere wherever he goes. He’s the kind of person who makes a difference just by being himself, and we’re confident he’ll continue to spread kindness and positivity in everything he does.
After high school, Kamryn plans to attend college to study Psychiatry.

We commend Kit’s leadership and honor his contributions across the program.
After graduation Kit plans to attend BYU to study construction management.
Carter Howard
Manufacturing, Welding, and Engineering
Carter is a senior at West Salem High School and is a true representation of a CTEC student. He works hard, does everything that he is asked to do, listens to directions, and works well with all his peers. He is timely, takes ownerships of his projects, and excels in safety and work habits. Specific note was made of the fact that he is always looking for more projects to work on after he has completed his assigned work.
Unfortunately, Carter went home sick the morning of our luncheon, but his teacher shared that Carter would like to pursue a career in welding and metal fabrication.
